Hymns of comfort speak directly to the bereaved — assurance, rest, and the hope of reunion. They are commonly sung after tributes, when grief in the room is at its heaviest, and are among the most requested hymns for funeral brochures in both English and Twi.

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll; Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say, It is well, it is well with my soul.
